Used private jet supply fell to 1,009 aircraft in August 2026

In August 2026, Jefferies counted 1,009 used business jets for sale worldwide. That is down from 1,206 in August 2025.

A new jet is not a shortcut around that. Jetcraft’s CEO said on 24 August 2026 that delivery slots for many programmes still run into 2028 and beyond. Pre-owned is the fastest way to own. Charter is the fastest way to fly.

How many used private jets are for sale right now?

Jefferies, reported 24 August 2026:

• 1,009 used business jets listed, down 16% from August 2025 (1,206) and slightly below July (1,016)
• Heavy-jet inventory down 34% year on year. Midsize down 12%. Light down 9%
• Jets less than seven years out of production: inventory down 45% year on year. They were 2.0% of the active fleet listed in August
• Average used-jet asking prices were up 3% year on year, flat versus July

The squeeze is on newer, large-cabin metal. The older jets still sitting on the market are a different pile.

How long do you wait for a new private jet?

Factories are not idle. JetNet recorded 158 new business-jet deliveries in the second quarter of 2026, up from 145 a year earlier (Jetcraft, 24 August 2026). Gulfstream’s backlog was about $24 billion and Bombardier’s $21.8 billion in mid-August 2026 (Corporate Jet Investor, 17 August 2026). Both were still selling more aircraft than they delivered.

Jetcraft’s read: later-model, low-time used jets still sell. Older ones sit. The jets that sold in the second quarter had an average model year of 2011. The jets still listed averaged 2003. Days on market for sold aircraft fell from 215 in Q1 to 199 in Q2. About 6.6% of the total fleet was for sale in Q2.

If you want one specific airframe, you can wait. If you have a date, you cannot.

Is a used Gulfstream G650 easier to find than last year?

No.

Jefferies, August 2026: five G650s for sale, versus 30 in August 2025. All used Gulfstreams listed: 22 aircraft, 1.1% of the active fleet, down from 3.5% a year earlier.

Same report, also August 2026: Embraer 22 used jets listed (down 42%), Cessna 45 (down 42%), Bombardier 42 (down 33%), Dassault 19 (down 30%).

A used G650 is not “the market.” It is one scarce type. Charter still covers that cabin class on a trip-by-trip basis, without buying the airframe.

When does buying still make sense?

When you fly often enough that one aircraft, one crew, and one hangar are cheaper and simpler than a year of charters. When you can wait for the right serial number. When you want the asset.
